Learn About CBD Tinctures

If you have spent much time searching out CBD products, there is a great likelihood that you have heard and read about CBD tinctures.  Many consumers prefer using tinctures over other methods of consumption because it's simple, easy, and quite natural. However, as an informed consumer, you should know more about tinctures, particularly how they are produced and how best to consume them.

The History of Tinctures

The use of tinctures has a long history, beginning over 1,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt. This was the stage where Egyptians had learned how to distill alcohol; through regular practice and various trials, they quickly realized that distilled alcohol could be mixed with plants to better preserve them. It took a little extra time to begin developing plant-based medicaments with distilled alcohol, and from this method, tinctures were born.

Tinctures have remained popular over generations, as they can even be made at home using basic ingredients. Prior to the infamous US War Against Marijuana, cannabis was a popular herb used to make tinctures. Perhaps the most famous cannabis tincture recipe is the "Green Dragon" tincture recipe which mixes decarboxylated cannabis (i.e., the cannabinoids are activated) with alcohol in a covered mason jar. With a modest agitation of the jar each day, after a few weeks, the distilled alcohol will have absorbed the compounds of the cannabis and is converted into a tincture. The final step involves removing the plant materials which have been drained of their important compounds.

Of course, such kitchen-sink solutions are no longer necessary, thanks to the many businesses now developing high-quality CBD Oil tinctures for consumer use. The reason CBD rose so quickly to the forefront of the wellness industry is because this important compound contains no psychoactive elements which could make the consumer "high." Now consumers can avoid the delay and mess of developing their own tinctures by finding the right outlet where one can buy CBD tinctures produced using superior methods and plant materials.

At CBD Emporium, every product on our shelf must first pass our rigorous due diligence process; this helps us identify and offer only superior quality CBD tinctures (and other CBD products) that deliver important wellness benefits while being produced using only the best and healthiest processes. This leaves you with an attractive selection of CBD tinctures that met our strict standards and requirements, saving you lots of homework, failed trials, and money!

Ingredients Found In CBD Oil Tinctures

As the development and production of tinctures evolved and refined, new methods and sometimes ingredients were tested and employed in tinctures. With the increased interest and use of CBD tinctures, some manufacturers include more of the hemp plant material (from which the pure CBD is derived). Other producers prefer a "purist" approach, seeking only to extract and use the CBD compound from the hemp plant (producing what is called "isolate" CBD).

One thing you can count on when comparing different CBD oil tinctures: all will contain the CBD molecule, as extracted from the hemp plant. However, many consumers and producers agree that there are more beneficial ingredients to the modest but miraculous hemp plant than simply CBD. This perspective has led to the development and offering of various kinds of CBD oil tinctures, with full spectrum and broad spectrum CBD tinctures rapidly growing in popularity and use in tandem with classic isolate CBD oil tinctures.

Other ingredients you might see on your bottle of CBD tincture include:

  • MCT Coconut Oil - this is the most common "carrier" oil, meaning that it delivers the CBD compound most effectively to your body
  • Terpenes - these aromatic oils are found in many plants (especially conifers) and even some insects, and are the source of both the flavors and aromas emitted from the plants
  • Flavonoids - found naturally in the hemp plant (and many more plants in nature), these are plant metabolites believed to provide antioxidant effects and improve cell-signaling pathways (meaning it protects your body from common stressors and toxins to which we are regularly exposed)
  • Flavoring - because of the strong earthy flavor of hemp, some tinctures include other flavorings (peppermint, lemon, raspberry, and other strong flavors are excellent candidates) to offset the hemp taste

Using CBD Oil Tinctures

The process of creating a CBD tincture converts the extracted cannabinoids into highly concentrated CBD oils, which means a little dose goes a long way. It's normal for your CBD tincture bottle to include a dropper built into the cap, which allows for highly accurate and consistent dosages to be taken easily. When using a dropper, the most popular method employed is to take it sublingually (meaning, you release the drops under the tongue) and allowing it to dissolve slowly. In fact, this is the standard delivery procedure for treating epilepsy seizures using CBD oil tinctures; research has shown this delivery methodology to be particularly efficacious with its easy and consistent availability and absorption in the body, more efficiently than other oral delivery procedures.

The dropper is also excellent for measuring out precise portions which you can include in many foods and drinks, such as:

  • Beverages
  • Coffee
  • Desserts
  • Pastas
  • Salads
  • Soups
  • Teas
  • Vegetables

Many consumers have discovered excellent "concoctions" they have created by adding CBD oil to favorite foods or drinks; one popular mixture is adding CBD oil to chamomile tea, making an excellent nightcap to aid in a more restful sleep. Others claim that adding CBD oil tinctures to coffee cuts that caffeine edge and reduces their jitters.

Our best recommendation is to make a list of your own comfort foods, along with the results you experience when enjoying them. Then add a CBD tincture to them to see if it enhances your overall enjoyment. For instance, if hot chocolate is your preferred nighttime beverage, try adding a dose of CBD tincture to see if it boosts the relaxing effects you already enjoy when drinking it before bed.

Frequently Asked Questions About CBD Oil Tinctures

We also have prepared for you an in-depth FAQ, providing answers to the questions we most commonly hear or read about from our valued clients.

Will I Find THC in the CBD Oil Tinctures Offered by CBD Emporium?

We offer a variety of hemp products which includes isolate, full spectrum, and broad spectrum CBD products. Because full spectrum CBD products derived from the hemp plant uses all the important compounds contained in the plant, this includes trace amounts of THC (by law, no hemp plant can contain more than 0.3% THC). The small amount of THC included in full spectrum CBD products is not sufficient in quantity to make the consumer "high" in any way. It should be noted that some restrictive drug tests might identify this trace amount of THC, which could negatively affect a job application or other situation where drug testing is mandated.

Do I need a prescription for CBD Oil Tinctures?

Because all of our CBD oil tinctures are derived from the hemp plant, which is 100% legal (and safe!) in the United States, a prescription from a physician is not required in order to purchase our CBD products. As a side note, it is not uncommon for a doctor to recommend CBD oil tinctures as part of an overall treatment plan for certain patients. We also recommend you consult with your physician whenever you plan to add or change your current wellness regimen.

What's the Difference Between Isolate, Full Spectrum, and Broad Spectrum CBD?

The short answer is that isolate CBD only contains the CBD compound extracted from hemp,  full-spectrum CBD extracts all phytocannabinoids, and broad-spectrum CBD extracts all phytocannabinoids except for THC. For a fuller explanation, we suggest this article: What Is the Difference Between Isolate, Broad Spectrum, and Full Spectrum CBD?

What's the Difference Between Hemp Oil & CBD Oil?

While CBD is extracted from the hemp plant, hemp oil is another term for hempseed oil, which is directly extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp seeds, while containing nutritional ingredients (i.e., mineral content and healthy fats) which can enhance your wellness program, do not contain any cannabidiol (CBD). Be certain to read product labels carefully; anything using the following descriptions are hemp oil and will not contain CBD

  • Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil
  • Cannabis Seed Oil
  • Hemp Oil
  • Hemp Seed Oil

What's the Correct Amount of CBD Oil to Take?

As each human body is unique, so too will be the amount of CBD you should take. Obviously, a 20-year-old, 98-pound, female will have strikingly different needs than a 65-year-old, 185-pound male. Not only will their diets and lifestyles likely be at opposite ends of the spectrum, so will their CBD needs and usage. Fortunately for our broad range of clients, we offer an equally wide selection of CBD products of varying dosages. You can find 1- to 4-ounce bottles of tinctures containing anywhere between 300mg and 6000mg of CBD oil (droppers vary in dosages from between 10mg and 50mg). Of course, we also offer isolate, full spectrum, and broad spectrum CBD tinctures, all carefully evaluated and approved before hitting our shelves.

How Long Do CBD Oil Tinctures Last?

Each person develops his or her own CBD regimen for taking tinctures, but many consumers find that establishing a consistent program for CBD tincture dosing works best. Most users find two doses, once upon rising in the morning and the second at bedtime, is sufficient for their needs. Others use tinctures as their foundation for daily CBD ingestion and use different CBD products (edibles, creams, and balms, for instance) for additional CBD treatments throughout their day. We recommend beginning with a morning/evening CBD oil tincture routine and then adjusting accordingly. Also, be aware that stress-filled days may call for extra dosages of CBD (either as tinctures or other kinds of products).
