Let's Talk Skin Care...With CBD

Let's Talk Skin Care...With CBD
August 24, 2021

As mentioned in the last blog, I was a Cosmetologist, technically I still am, but my health issues have prevented me from being able to continue. Which is why I am now a Social Media Guru! So these blogs are my all time favorites, sharing my knowledge from cosmetology mixed with my knowledge of CBD, it’s a magical combination. The last blog covered CBD Cosmetics but I didn’t include skin-care...because it’s such a big section and it deserves it’s own blog.

Here we go, skin-care importance!

Taking care of your skin is a huge deal, skin is the largest organ we have and it controls so many important functions. The Integumentary System includes your skin, hair, nails, and associated glands, it is responsible for protection, temperature control, sensations, immunity, and excretion. Skin is typically broken into three layers, the epidermis, dermis (where your sweat glands, sebaceous glands, and blood vessels reside), and subcutaneous layer (the fatty layer where nerves branch off into the upper layers).

Most skin conditions will start in the dermis or the epidermis, those are the layers that are targeted with skin care products. Things like acne, folliculitis, eczema, rosacea ,seborrheic dermatitis, oily or dry skin will benefit from proper skin care. The dermis contains the hair follicles and sebaceous glands, which produce sebum or oil, inflamed follicles and oil glands are what produce acne, seborrheic dermatitis, and folliculitis. The top layer of the Epidermis is responsible for shedding dead skin cells, it's important to keep this layer healthy so the dead cells do shed and your pores don’t get clogged. Using skin care products will help keep these layers healthy so you can avoid skin issues.

Keeping a good skin care routine is important for many reasons, as we age our skin cells don’t replicate as quickly so they don’t shed as quickly either, this can result in your skin looking dull. Preventing signs of aging, like wrinkles, is easier than correcting those signs. Why settle for Botox or Filler in 20 years when you can just use good skin care products now? And if you need more reasons than just anti-aging, preventing acne, protecting against sun damage and free radicals should be the extra nudge you need.

Now the real question, what makes CBD skin care products better than others?

There are many ingredients out there that are anti-inflammatory, help collagen production, are high in antioxidants, antimicrobial, and can fight free radicals, but in most skin care products these ingredients have to be combined into one product to get these results. CBD offers all of these benefits on its own, that is why CBD products are better. Yes, there will still be other ingredients in the products, but they are looked at as boosters to give you the best results possible.

Studies are slowly popping up, more are definitely needed, but the ones that have been done show the possible benefits in your skin care routine, such as

  • Being a powerful antioxidant, which can help protect your cells from damage like free radicals, antioxidants can also help prevent diseases. This can help prevent or reduce signs of aging.
  • Improving the production of collagen, collagen is responsible for making the skin and muscles firm, and making connective tissue and bones stronger. Obviously in a skin care product we aren’t thinking about connective tissue or bones but with it firming skin, this is very important to keep your skin looking youthful.
  • Anti-inflammatory huge for acne, eczema, dermatitis, folliculitis, and psoriasis. All of these conditions are inflammations of some sort, and all of them can happen on your face. Most of us have had at least one of these conditions on our faces, and we know it’s not fun.
  • And lastly, antimicrobial. Since acne is an inflamed follicle and sebaceous gland with bacteria in it, you can see the importance of this.

If you are someone that is concerned about CBD entering your bloodstream then this section is dedicated to you. When CBD is applied topically in the form of a skin care product it does not enter your bloodstream, it actually attaches to the CB2 receptors in your skin, which is why you still get all the benefits of it.

When buying a skin care product that has CBD in it you want to make sure it is high quality, these products are popping up everywhere so it’s easily found, but you have to be careful. Making sure the product is high quality means it should come from a company that has dedicated themselves to producing high quality hemp, this will ensure that your product has gone through testing to make sure it is up to the company’s standards.

We hope that covering all of this has explained why using CBD in your skin care routine could be incredibly beneficial. If you have any questions about these products, or would like a consultation to find the right skin care product you can email us at [email protected], call one of our stores, or call our main line at 602.773.6683.
