How Does Hemp Work in Pets?

How Does Hemp Work in Pets?
September 27, 2021

Dogs like humans have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in almost every system in the body – cardiovascular, digestion, relaxation, and even the cognitive and memory functions. The ECS is controlled by receptors, called CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors are located in the brain and throughout the body, while CB2 receptors are found mostly in the immune and gastrointestinal system.  When hemp is introduced to the receptors, it helps maintain balance in the body and keep it in a normal healthy state.

In order to work, the hemp has to be easily absorbed by the body. We all know the adage that oil and water don’t mix. Dog’s and cat’s bodies are made up of 60 – 80% water. Hemp is naturally an oil, so giving your pet a dropper of oil may be missing the mark. If it doesn’t absorb properly, how can it work?

At Heirloom Pets, we start with organic, water-soluble, broad spectrum hemp. The process we use results in an emulsion (think salad dressing) which allows the hemp molecules to blend seamlessly with our products. This means consistent dosing. Because our hemp molecules are water soluble, they have the ability to enter your pet’s bloodstream at a more rapid rate. What does this mean? Simply put, this means our products can get to work faster.
